Female characters that kick A!
LoveOzYA committee member, Rhiannon Patrick, shares her favourite titles with action packed female protagonists.
The LoveOzYA committee are a group of people who promote fantastic Australian YA and the events taking place across our country. We asked them to step away from their amazing website for a second to share their favourite YA titles.

I’ve been obsessed by The Medoran Chronicles series since it started. Main character Alex is not afraid to fight for what she believes in but also learns a lot about herself along the way.

Lady Helen and the Dark Days Club by Alison Goodman
This is another of my book series obsessions! I even started my own Dark Days Club. Lady Helen is already struggling with what it means to be a young woman in Regency England but is such a great character who does what she must to keep the Dark Days Club secret.

Becoming Kirrali Lewis by Jane Harrison
I could identify with this book so much and Kirrali’s experience of university. It’s where I learnt a lot about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history from the other (older) students on campus. Kirrali grows into her future self and I can’t wait for the next part of her story (when and if that happens).

I love a good werewolf story and I love Tommi! She knows who she is (well the human part) and is confident in her own abilities.

When Michael Met Mina by Randa Abdel-Fattah
This is a book that everyone should read! Mina is a confident character who is willing to understand Michael’s point of view but also challenges him to to see the world through her eyes. Such an important book.
